A charter reform group is making the rounds of Long Beach civic and business groups promoting their campaign to change the way we elect our City Council members.

As outlined in a recent P-T editorial, the "reformers" advocate reducing the number of council districts from nine to six, adding three at-large council members, extending term limits and giving more power to the mayor. They claim that the current district and council election system promotes parochialism and pits one neighborhood against another at the expense of business and citywide interests.
