Summary


Trade volumes through local ports are forecast to continue rising in coming months, but political uncertainty, fuel price spikes and the fallout from Japan's massive earthquake and nuclear crisis represent growing threats to the region's economy.

Economists, shipping executives and trade forecasters met Wednesday in Long Beach for the "Pulse of the Ports: Peak Season Forecast" to discuss global trade patterns for 2011, which have been largely revised in recent weeks as revolutions and natural disasters shook the Middle East, North Africa and Asia.
