We've watched in bemused disbelief during the past few years as the music industry has bungled one response after another to the burgeoning digital music revolution. But this time Sony really outdid itself.

Sony's music division, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, recently sold music CDs that, if played on a computer, left the user's computer vulnerable to hacking and identity theft. The CDs contained software that was supposed to deter piracy, but also opened a door to viruses, spyware and hacking.
