LONG BEACH -- Addressing dire predictions this week that the nation's largest ports, including the Port of Long Beach, are prime targets for a disastrous terror attack, a security official said on Thursday that regional partnerships are being forged to prevent such an incident.

A UCLA economics professor and political scientist told a terrorism conference on Wednesday that separate or simultaneous attacks on major U.S. ports could lead to hundreds of thousands or millions of casualties.
