Your Aug. 24 editorial, "Ship it to Savannah," is a sad commentary on the Press-Telegram's vision for the future. You suggest the best way to deal with the challenges our community faces because we are home to a world class port is to stop growing and send cargo elsewhere.
If we as a community turn our backs on the port because we don't want to put in the effort to address our collective challenges, the port will wither and die. Anyone who owns or operates a business knows this. The business enterprises that now make the port a thriving place of commerce and trade must make large and long-term investments in order to stay competitive in a global economy. If the community decides to limit the growth of the ports, there's little incentive for them to invest in a clouded future.See the full content of this document
