Summary


The Long Beach City Council should work to avoid a lawsuit tonight by allowing Mayor Bob Foster's veto of the "Labor Peace Agreement" to stand. Council members were elected as trusted stewards of public money - not union organizers - and should do everything they can to avert, rather than invite, legal action.

Testing the waters in court with an ordinance that could violate contracts with four hotels on city land, as well as federal labor law, is not the best use of taxpayer money. There is no urgency; long-term leases with the four hotels on city land are in place.
