Parking Violators May Get Boot

LONG BEACH - As the City Council grapples with how to eliminate an expected $16.9 million budget deficit, City Auditor Laura Doud says Long Beach can bring in up to $2.5 million a year more in revenue by giving serial parking violators the "boot."

Doud proposed Monday that the city use wheel clamps, also known as "boots," to immobilize vehicles that have five or more unpaid parking tickets. She is taking the proposal to the council next Tuesday for consideration.
