LOS ANGELES More than three weeks have passed since a Hawaiian Gardens gangster was jailed in connection with the fatal shooting of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Jerry Ortiz, but investigators likely won't seek charges for another two weeks or more, a sheriff's official said Tuesday.

Jose Luis Orozco, 27, is being held in Los Angeles County jail on a parole violation, which means investigators are under no time constraints to present their evidence to prosecutors for a criminal filing. But the delay is unusual, given that most criminal cases are filed within 48 hours of a person's arrest.
