Nearly 400 dined with the fish in support of the nonprofit Aquarium of the Pacific's ocean conservation and education initiatives at the seventh annual Ocean Conservation Awards Gala on June 17. Leon E. Panetta, of The Pew Charitable Trusts and Mayor Beverly O'Neill were honored with 2006 Ocean Conservation Awards.
The black-tie fund-raiser, honoring the achievements of individuals and organizations that have contributed to environmental conservation efforts, raised more than $300,000 to support the Aquarium's conservation and educational programs. The Aquarium bestowed its 2006 awards to Panetta, a former chief of staff to President Clinton and founder and director of the Panetta Institute, to Dr. Joshua Reichert, director of the Environment Division of The Pew Charitable Trusts on behalf of his organization, and to Mayor O'Neill.See the full content of this document
