Much has changed since I began attending Long Beach schools back in 1940. Today, as my oldest grandson prepares to become the fourth generation of Meyers to enroll at Wilson High School, I can attest that never in our history have our schools accomplished so much for so many with so few resources.
So dire is the budget situation that we've reached a critical point where we must either change the way we fund our schools, or face the dismantling of public education as we know it. Measure T on Tuesday's ballot presents local voters a unique opportunity to take back control of local school funding and sustain the excellence of the Long Beach Unified School District. That's why former Republican Gov. (and current Long Beach resident) George Deukmejian is supporting the measure, which asks property owners to pitch in 25 cents a day, or $92 a year for just five years, to protect local schools from continuing, uncontrolled state budget cuts.See the full content of this document
