LONG BEACH -- Every year, the Long Beach Police Department gathers to honor acts of bravery and heroism among its ranks and the community.

Tuesday's awards ceremony, held at the Long Beach Convention Center and attended by more than 1,200 people, included many examples of those selfless virtues.
