An common foe has united two unlikely groups, hunters and animal rights activists. Their target is Internet sites that allow computer users to shoot prey over the Internet, by remote control, with the click of a mouse.

The phenomenon of the "high-tech shooting gallery" isn't widespread. But after a Texas company recently began offering Internet users the opportunity to bag live game over the computer, reaction was swift and angry from all sides.
