Californians will choose another governor in 13 months, and Jerry Brown, a one-time wunderkind of California politics who served two erratic gubernatorial terms three decades ago, has emerged as the leading contender.

As Brown - who will be 72 next year - filed papers last week to make his candidacy semi-official, a new poll showed the one-term attorney general winning the Democratic nomination handily and leading all three Republican hopefuls.
