Cutlines: Milford Zornes, Seated, Sold a Painting to Florence Bixby in 1940.

Summary

Flanked by a virtual forest of bamboo on one side and an array of cactus on the other, 220 guests arrived at Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Ranch and Gardens on July 31 for "Strokes of Local Color.' The late-afternoon fundraiser was held on the elegant front lawn under the shade of two magnificent 125-year-old Moreton Bay fig trees.

More than 40 artists had painted at the Rancho during the previous week, capturing on canvas the colorful whispers of the site's 150-year history. As jazz music wafted through the air, guests strolled around the 7.5-acre site, looking at exhibits of the accomplished artists' works. A portion of the sales from the stunning plein air art works were donated to Rancho Los Alamitos in support of its free public educational programs and for preservation of this nationally acclaimed site.
