LONG BEACH - The City Council unanimously approved new fire safety rules on Tuesday for high-rise and multi-unit apartment buildings.

Long Beach Fire Department officials described how this new rule, which also applies to hotels and motels with 50 or more units under one roof, requires owners of such buildings to install fire sprinklers or take alternative measures.
