Summary
Christina Velasco, a freshman biology major at Cal State Long Beach, was recently awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the United Health Foundation and PacifiCare Foundation to pursue a career in the health care industry. Velasco, 18, was one of 77 Spanish- speaking, bicultural students from across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic receiving scholarships.
The awards, part of the Latino Health Scholars Program launched in 2003, are to help boost the number of Spanish-speaking health care professionals. Velasco wants to pursue a career as a reconstructive surgeon.See the full content of this document
