As a Pacific Islander and a proud member of the Asian Pacific Islander community, I stand in solidarity with those who are firmly opposed to SB 1070.

Signed into law by the governor of Arizona, this law empowers police officers to stop and interrogate individuals regarding citizenship status and make it a crime to be an undocumented person in Arizona. If a person does not immediately present documents proving that he or she is in the U.S. legally, he or she may be criminally prosecuted, jailed and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation. SB 1070 will go into effect Thursday.
