Los Angeles County's Jobless Rate Now at 11.4%

Los Angeles County's unemployment rate soared last month to a record 11.4percent while California hit an all-time high of 11.2percent as economically stressed employers continued to shed jobs, figures released Friday show.

An estimated 565,000 of the region's residents were out of work, up from 319,000 just a year earlier, when the jobless rate was 6.4percent. And in reporting its own record-setting number, the state Employment Development Department said more than 61,000 people lost their jobs in March.
