New Rules for Lenders

In the midst of the worst credit crisis in decades, the Federal Reserve has laid down new rules to prohibit unfair or deceptive credit card practices. Some banks have complained that the new regulations are untimely, because they will further limit credit. That's malarkey. Fair dealing should not be construed as a damper on credit. Cutting Their Own Budgets

Think of it as one small step for Sacramento. OK, so it's hard to draw any historic conclusions from California Assembly Speaker Karen Bass' decision to cut her august chamber's budget by 10 percent. It's one small - positive, to be sure, but small, nonetheless - gesture on the part of our political leaders to accept some share of the burden for a problem they've largely created.
